WNBA Sky's Elena Delle Donne, Sister Star In New Gatorade "Win From Within" Campaign

WNBA Chicago Sky F Elena Delle Donne is the latest athlete to star in Gatorade's "Win from Within" campaign, which tells the story of her relationship with her sister, Lizzie, according to Gabriel Beltrone of ADWEEK. The new two-minute ad from TBWA/Chiat/Day "beautifully tells the story" of why Delle Donne dropped out of a UConn scholarship earlier in her career so she could "continue to spend time with her sibling, who has cerebral palsy, and cannot see or hear." Delle Donne in the spot "reflects on the sheer joy her sister gets from something as simple as the feeling from a gust of wind." In the end, a commercial that "flirts at the beginning with grandiose concepts like fate ends on a surprisingly practical note." Delle Donne concludes the spot by saying, "You don't focus on what you don't have. You celebrate what you do" (ADWEEK.com, 9/20). Delle Donne: "It was really exciting to see it all come together. With Lizzie I'm very protective and [in] general turn down interviews with her. But this was such a special concept so worth sharing with the world. She's so inspiring and if I can share her gift with as many people as possible she can inspire some people it's so worth it." The AP's Doug Feinberg noted the digital short, called "For the Wind," is the "first solo one by Gatorade with a WNBA player." Gatorade has long been "supportive of female athletes" having commercials with Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach and Serena Williams (AP, 9/16).
