NFL Names & Faces: Peyton Manning To Continue Heavy Ad Promotions In Retirement

Peyton Manning's agent, Excel Sports Management's Alan Zucker, said that his client "has no plans" to slow down as a pitchman, and he "thinks Manning will have commercial appeal for many years to come." In Indianapolis, Anthony Schoettle noted Manning will be featured in ads for cellphone case manufacturer Otter Box "later this fall and into next year." The company will "emphasize protection in its commercials featuring Manning." Otter Box on Friday "unveiled its first ad featuring Manning," who "battles Ollie, the former Otter Box spokesman, to see who takes on the job as spokesman for the company." In the ad, Ollie "punches a cake decorated with the face of Manning" (IBJ.com, 9/19).

STAY IN SCHOOL: In Phoenix, Kylie Gad noted Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald "appears in a new commercial" for the Univ. of Phoenix, and it is the "polar opposite of those Bridgestone 'Go Long' commercials." In the spot, titled "A Promise to Mom," Fitzgerald "calls and leaves a message for his [late] mother on her answering machine, which still features her voice on the greeting." He "thanks her for inspiring him and pushing him to get his college degree" (AZCENTRAL.com, 9/16).

SUPER CEREAL: In Green Bay, Jeff Bollier notes Packers WR Jordy Nelson has "made it to the big time with the launch of his cereal, Jordy's Farm Fresh Flakes." Nelson and Pittsburgh-based PLB Sports yesterday "unveiled Jordy’s Farm Fresh Flakes." PLB Dir of Sports Programs Doug Ritchart said that the limited edition cereal is "expected to stay on grocers’ shelves through the end of the football season" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 9/20)....Broncos RB C.J. Anderson said of his cereal, C.J.’s Mile High Crunch, “They taste like Frosted Flakes, they're really good. We’re just trying to promote them out here and give kids another kind of cereal" (“NFL Live,” ESPN, 9/16).

I'LL HAVE IT MY WAY: In Charlotte, Langston Wertz Jr. notes Panthers QB Cam Newton has "worked with a company called One Inc to create a new social media app, 'I Post My Way' that gives users a customized keyboard that the company claims works in any app, that allows users to type in their own style."
