Queen's Feast: FC Cincinnati Shatters Single-Game, Season USL Attendance Records

Saturday's Orlando City B-FC Cincinnati match was "played before a USL single-game record crowd of 24,376," marking the third time FC Cincinnati has "shattered the single-game league record," according to Patrick Brennan of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. The record crowd "topped its own previous high of 23,376 from the May 14 game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds." The team's single-season USL record, which it has "owned for months, went final Saturday at 259,437 over 15 league matches." FC Cincinnati tallied 303,166 "across all competitions -- all numbers that are competitive with what MLS clubs draw." The team's per-game average attendance of 17,295 would have "beat the averages of five MLS teams" from '15 (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 8/18). FOXSPORTS.com's Ryan Rosenblatt wrote the record makes FC Cincinnati not just a success, but the new "gold standard in USL and all American lower division soccer." Rosenblatt: "And to think, this is only the club's first season." It is no wonder that MLS Commissioner Don Garber has been "mentioning the city more and more often in expansion talks, but it wasn't just FC Cincinnati who had a big weekend." The whole league did, with USL "breaking their record for total attendance in a week as three teams recorded sellouts" (FOXSPORTS.com, 9/19).
