Under Armour Debuts Line Of Performance Sportswear At New York Fashion Week

Under Armour on Thursday "presented its first New York Fashion Week collection" when it "unveiled Under Armour Sportswear (UAS), its fashionable take on performance sportswear," according to John-John Williams IV of the Baltimore SUN. About 300 people "crowded in a waterfront warehouse" to see the "latest creations" from UAS Exec Creative Dir Tim Coppens, a Belgian-based designer. The collection, which "ranges in price from $59 for lifestyle layering pieces called Prime to $1,500 for a camo wool trench coat, includes everything from quilted bomber jackets to wedge boots." The palette for the pieces was "mostly navy, tan, army green, white and maroon, with the occasional splash of orange." The collection hit stores last week. In November, the collection will be "available in the Under Armour Brand House in Boston," while it will "not immediately be available at the Baltimore brand house." Guests of the fashion show included rapper Fabolous and snowboarder Shaun White. UA Founder, Chair & CEO Kevin Plank was "also in attendance" (Baltimore SUN, 9/17). BLOOMBERG NEWS' Bhasin & Townsend wrote UA "ditched the chipper pop-culture mentality typical of American fashion brands" and instead "opted to go with a grungy, underground look bolstered by models striding down a concrete runway to music with a relentlessly thumping bass line." Mets P Noah Syndergaard, a UA athlete, "posed for photos in front of the clothes" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/15).
