Titans Disciplined Over Ownership Non-Compliance; Team Has No Plans To Change

The Titans' ownership group has "no plans to kowtow to the NFL, despite the league imposing a six-figure fine for failing to conform to majority ownership rules," according to Jason Wolf of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Titans Controlling Owner Amy Adams Strunk yesterday said, "We don't think there's anything wrong with our structure, so that's where we differ." However, she "insisted the issue is not headed to a lawsuit." Strunk: "No. We're going to get it resolved." Strunk "confirmed the NFL levied a six-figure fine against the Titans when she took over in place of her sister, Susie Adams Smith," in March '15. Wolf notes further discipline from the league is a "possibility, but not being considered at this time" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 9/19).

ONGOING SITUATION: CBSSPORTS.com's Jason La Canfora cited sources as saying that Strunk, who "continues to maintain she will not sell the franchise but has of yet presented no plan to keep it herself that would comply with NFL rules, was hit with a significant, six-figure fine earlier this year." A league source said that she "appealed the ruling but 'was granted no relief.'" La Canfora noted the future of the Titans "remains a topic of considerable interest in league circles, with the team's ownership in flux since the passing of patriarch Bud Adams, who did not have a clear succession plan in place." The franchise "was placed in a trust." Sources added that the situation is "ongoing and fluid, and while the NFL is not considering any further discipline right now, the potential for further fines down the road is real." Ownership sources said that Jon Bon Jovi "remains keenly interested in the Titans." People close to Peyton Manning "believe the Titans are the one team he would seriously consider owning at least a portion of" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/18).
