NFL Franchise Notes: Browns Honor Jim Brown With Club's First-Ever Stadium Statue

The Browns yesterday unveiled a statue of Pro Football HOFer Jim Brown in front of First Energy Stadium, the first statue of a Browns player in Cleveland. The ceremony highlighted Brown's on and off-field accomplishments. Both Brown himself and team Owner Jimmy Haslam III spoke at the event (Browns). In Cleveland, Lynn Ischay noted the "long-awaited, eight-foot bronze work by local artist David Deming" had been "quietly in the works for months." The Browns "commissioned the statue in February, and it is expected to be the first of several, though none other has been announced" (CLEVELAND.com, 9/16).

FOOTBALL FARE: The Redskins on Friday announced that they have "set up an area where Uber users can be dropped off and picked up before and after the team's games at FedEx Field, describing its Prince George's County Sports Complex location as 'adjacent to the stadium's parking lots.'" In DC, Matt Bonesteel noted anyone who "wants to Uber to FedEx Field is going to end up walking the last mile or so of their trip." But it is at least "another option to get to a stadium that's notoriously hard to get to" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 9/16).

SOONER THE BETTER: In Detroit, Justin Rogers noted the Lions, in an effort to encourage fans to get to games early and "reduce lengthy waits to get into the building," will have "weekly giveaways for the first 20,000 fans, highlighted by a Barry Sanders bobble head" for the Oct. 16 game against the Rams (DETROITNEWS.com, 9/16).
