Lazarus Gets Oversight Of NBC Entertainment, Sports In Company Exec Shakeup

In the wake of an Olympic Games that NBC execs say posted a $250M profit, NBC Sports Chair MARK LAZARUS was promoted to add oversight of NBC’s broadcasting business, taking the title of NBC Broadcasting & Sports Chair. In his new role, Lazarus will oversee NBCU-owned TV Stations, NBC Affiliate Relations, NBC Affiliate Marketing, NBC Network Operations and Broadcast Standards. The news was announced Thursday via an internal email sent by NBCU CEO STEVE BURKE. Lazarus fills a role left vacant by NBC Broadcasting Chair TED HARBERT, who is leaving the company. “Ted has had a great 40-year career in television and has played a significant role at Comcast and NBCUniversal since he joined E! in 2004,” Burke wrote. “I know Ted’s heart will always remain in the television business, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.” Elsewhere, NBC Entertainment President of Late Night GEORGE CHEEKS and President of Alternative & Reality Group PAUL TELEGDY will take over the net’s first-run syndication business, while NBCU Int’l Chair KEVIN MACLELLAN will become Chair of Global Distribution & Int’l. NBCU Senior VP/Strategic Integration MAGGIE MCLEAN SUNIEWICK will become President of the newly created NBCU Digital Enterprises.
