Serena Williams Unveils Latest Fashion Collection As Part of NYC's Fashion Week

Tennis player Serena Williams on Monday "unveiled her latest fashion collection" at a show during N.Y. Fashion Week, according to Ahiza Garcia of CNN MONEY. The show is the third Williams has "held in partnership with HSN, and in the audience were lots of fashion insiders, including Tommy Hilfiger and Vogue editor Anna Wintour." Williams' Signature Statement collection of coats, sweaters and dresses is "more than just a hobby" (MONEY.CNN.com, 9/14). In N.Y., Valeriya Safronova noted the line, which "included 42 pieces ranging in price from under $30 to nearly $700, was immediately available on HSN.com, making it yet another example of the see-now, buy-now trend at fashion week." Williams' row at the runway show included her sister Venus, singer Ciara and fellow tennis player Caroline Wozniacki (NYTIMES.com, 9/13).

SOCK WARS: In Boston, Erica Corsano notes Celtics assistant coach Walter McCarty is "making a foray into men’s fashion with a line of brightly colored men’s socks." He said, "As a player, I really cared about what I wore ... as a coach, no one’s really looking at your suit, but you’re sitting down the whole game and everybody sees your socks.” McCarty called former Reebok Basketball Division Dir Justin Kittredge and "eventually created his collection." The line, called 8ty2, is "currently sold online and exclusively at the hipster streetwear shop Bodega" at $19 per pair (BOSTON HERALD, 9/15).

GET 'EM WHILE THEY'RE HOT: U.S. skier Bode Miller is "launching a new line of Aztech Mountain activewear that he field-tests himself, which doesn't come cheap, at $425 to a whopping $1,850" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/15).
