MMQB To Take Over Next Week's SI Issue, With Peter King Leading Editorial Direction

The MMQB Editor-in-Chief Peter King will lead the production and editorial direction of a special, all-MMQB print edition of SI being released this week. “The MMQB Issue: The NFL As You’ve Never Experienced It” involved King temporarily taking the role of SI Editorial Dir Chris Stone, and the edition will be entirely composed of MMQB-produced content, including features on Bills RB LeSean McCoy, Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski and Raiders DE Khalil Mack, who is featured on the cover. Stone originally proposed the idea to King in June, and the two and their staffs spent the ensuing two months in development of The MMQB issue concept. “I’ve been here since 1989, and I always thought it would be something cool to do, that doing an issue would be cool to put together,” King said. “But honestly, when Chris actually proposed the idea to me, it was a little bit daunting. We’re still a small shop [at The MMQB], and filling all these pages was a tall order. But the staff was absolutely great about it, and I think it shows off the best of what we can do. It’s not just the typical feature stories. And that’s not to disparage those kinds of stories -- I did them for many years. But this showcases our different kind of approach, and the kind of insider access we provide.” King writes an editor’s letter to kick off the issue, writing, “Well, you hang out at Time Inc. long enough, and they give you a magazine to publish. ... So here it is, pro football covered our way.”
