Bill Foley Confirms "Knights" Will Be Part Of Las Vegas NHL Team Moniker

The name for the Las Vegas NHL team "will definitely have the word 'Knights' in it but everyone will have to wait until next month for the official reveal of the full name along with the logo and the team uniform," according to the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Team Owner Bill Foley on Friday said, "We have our basic logo picked, but it’s going to need some refinement. We have moved some color schemes around, and the team will be something Knights. K-n-i-g-h-t-s. We have the name. The name is trademarked, we have the domain name. That’s all I can say right now" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/11). Foley said the name is “99 percent as good” as Black Knights, and the jerseys will be designed to look as though there is a “steel mesh" (THEHOCKEYNEWS.com, 9/10).

RED OR BLACK? YAHOO SPORTS' Greg Wyshynski wrote under the header, "Gary Bettman's Sports Gambling Flip-Flop?" After reviewing Bettman's previous comments on gambling and Las Vegas, Wyshynski writes, "At the end of the day, Bettman believes in a few things:  the viability of the Las Vegas market, separate from gambling; that daily fantasy shouldn’t necessarily be defined as gambling; that NHL games will remain about the action on the ice and not the action in the sportsbook; and that his players and teams are approve reproach, despite this move." The NHL’s "lack of market share, across the entire U.S., can be directly linked to a lack of casual fan wagering on the game." Even if it is a "footnote in the overall motivation, the NHL was first into Las Vegas" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/9).
