Optimus Prime: 49ers, Amazon Partner On Delivery Service For Tailgate Supplies

The 49ers have signed a deal with Amazon Prime whereby fans will be able to order tailgating supplies for delivery to their parking spot in three designated lots at Levi’s Stadium prior to kickoff. Through the Prime Now mobile app and Primenow.com, fans can order from a selection of tens of thousands of items for delivery within an hour. Prime Now users enter their zip code to start shopping, and the delivery fee is $7.99 per order. The 49ers' first home game is Monday night against the Rams (Don Muret, Staff Writer). In S.F., Ron Leuty notes the deal is the "first tailgate delivery pact" between Amazon and an NFL team. It is "part of an accelerating trend by sports franchises to make the 'fan experience' -- inside and outside stadiums -- at least as important as the game on the field." Financial terms of the 49ers-Amazon deal were not disclosed. Amazon, which "operates a nearby distribution center and has been a 49ers corporate partner with traditional in-stadium signage since Levi's Stadium opened two seasons ago, soft-launched the service during the 49ers' two preseason home games." Workers at the center "load orders into vans that drive to distribution points" where bike messengers "grab the goods and deliver directly to customers' parking spaces." 49ers VP/Corporate Partnerships Brent Schoeb said that the three team-controlled lots "have 10,300 parking spots and represent a 'high percentage' of tailgate-friendly spaces near the stadium" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/8).
