Las Vegas Mayor Still Pitching Cashman Center As Best Place For Raiders Stadium

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman is still "pitching the idea" that the downtown Cashman Center is the best place for the Raiders to build a 65,000-seat stadium, despite the fact that the developers "have narrowed a list of 11 proposed sites to two," according to Richard Velotta of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee (SNTIC) is getting closer to "forwarding a recommendation to Gov. Brian Sandoval on tourism-enhancing projects and will take another step in that direction" tomorrow with a scheduled meeting. Goodman believes Cashman Center would be "less expensive to develop since there would be no land cost and parking already is accounted for," but she knows the downtown plan is a "long-shot." Goodman said she asked Las Vegas Sands Chair & CEO Sheldon Adelson two years ago when the city was looking at stadium development about "whether he would consider something downtown." Goodman: "He said no then" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/7). In Las Vegas, Jackie Valley notes the SNTIC has been "busy hashing out the details" with stadium developers. Ultimately, it will "issue a recommendation to the governor, which could set the stage for a special legislative session to approve a stadium deal." There are many "loose ends to tie up, and questions to answer" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 9/7).
