EPL Club Tottenham Open To Hosting NFL, Soccer Games On Same Day At New Venue

EPL club Tottenham in '18 will start hosting two NFL games annually at its new stadium in London, and club Chair Daniel Levy said it is "realistic" that an EPL game and an NFL game "could take place at the ground on the same day," according to ESPN FC. One "potential problem" for the idea is that soccer is played on grass and football "often on a synthetic surface." But NFL Exec VP/Int'l Mark Waller "thinks that can be overcome." Waller said, "One of the idle thoughts we have at the moment is would you really be able to play an NFL game and an EPL game on the same day as a double header? ... I don't think you'd want to do it on a regular basis, but on a unique feature, that might be a really interesting idea." Levy added, "I don't think it's something we'd want to try our first game, but that is certainly realistic. How exciting the idea of having the two biggest leagues in the world from a television perspective -- fantastic! -- play on the same day" (ESPNFC.com, 9/6). In London, Matt Law notes given the fact that Levy agreed to break his silence at the request of the NFL, it appears he is "doing everything he can to secure a permanent London franchise at the new stadium" (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 9/7).
