Media Notes

In L.A., Meg James noted Dish Network and Tribune Media on Saturday "reached an agreement to end a nearly three-month feud that left millions of viewers without a favorite local TV station." Tribune stations, including KTLA-TV in L.A., "were knocked off Dish on June 12." Tribune is one of the "largest TV station groups in the U.S. and viewers in certain cities, such as Indianapolis, had been growing anxious about the prospect of starting a new NFL season without access to a key TV station" (L.A. TIMES, 9/4). Meanwhile, the Dodgers and KTLA on Friday announced a deal to simulcast some of SportsNet LA’s final games of this season, as Vin Scully concludes his last season as the team’s broadcaster (THE DAILY).

GET WITH THE TIMES
: In California, Larry Bohannan notes Golf Channel and NBC yesterday found themselves in a "tape-delay problem" with the final round of the PGA Tour Deutsche Bank Championship. Expected strong rains and winds in New England forced the Tour to "move up the tee times," which meant play would be "deep into the fourth round when Golf Channel had expected to show the start of many of the top players’ rounds." That play would be finished "well before NBC had planned to be off the air." Fans of the game are "constantly trying to get information about their sport," and the tape-delay process is "kind of obsolete in a modern digital-access world" (Palm Springs DESERT SUN, 9/6).

REPORT CARD: SI.com's Jon Wertheim doled out his mid-tournament reviews for the U.S. Open, giving the tournament's official app a C grade. The app's load time is "problematic," and the scoring design is "confusing." There also are "embarrassing" errors such as absent photos of former champs and the wrong photos for some visuals (SI.com, 9/4).

PEOPLE & PERSONALITIES: Columbus Dispatch columnist Bob Hunter's last column "will run Sunday." Hunter joined the paper in '75, but now wants "time to write, and to read, on his own schedule" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 9/6)....Baseball writer Peter Gammons is "on the upswing after a recent illness" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/4).
