Men's Apparel Brand Bonobos Inks Jimmy Butler For Campaign; Phelps On Wheaties Box

Online men's apparel company Bonobos is set to debut a new TV campaign Sept. 12 with the tagline "wear no doubts" that will "showcase the company's new brand ambassador," Bulls G Jimmy Butler, according to Lewis Lazare of the CHICAGO BUSINESS JOURNAL. Having a brand ambassador and TV commercial are both "firsts for Bonobos." In the spot, Butler "helps position Bonobos as the menswear company for those men who don't have any doubts about what they want to be seen wearing in public." But Butler "isn't the most natural talent for the kind of on-camera work he is being called on to do in the new TV spot," developed by Preacher, Austin. The company said that Butler's ambassadorial work for Bonobos extends to "various social and consumer-focused initiatives." The commercial will "air in three markets -- Atlanta, Houston and Chicago" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 8/29). Meanwhile, Kellogg's announced that Butler, a member of USA Basketball, will be featured on Gold Medal edition boxes of Corn Flakes. The Gold Medal edition cereal box is available free of charge on KelloggsFamilyRewards.com (Kellogg's). 

CEREAL SWIMMER: General Mills yesterday said that Michael Phelps will again "adorn its Wheaties cereal box, continuing its decades-old tradition of highlighting an athlete following the Olympic Games." In Minneapolis, Kristen Leigh Painter notes this is the third time General Mills has "put Phelps on its Wheaties box." General Mills "created a special 'Lifetime Achievement Box'" for Phelps that "should appear on store shelves within a few weeks." Michael Jordan and other athletes "appeared on the Wheaties box multiple times, but this is the first Lifetime Achievement edition in the brand's 94-year history" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/30). Phelps appeared on NBC's "Today" yesterday morning to discuss the Wheaties box. Phelps: "To be able to have the first lifetime achievement award box, my career just keeps getting better and better" ("Today," NBC, 8/29).
