Retirement Calculator: Tennessee AD Dave Hart's Exit To Cost University $645,454

Tennessee AD Dave Hart's retirement will cost the school $645,454, which the school will pay in "12 equal installments," according to Grant Ramey of the Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL. The figure makes up 75% of Hart's aggregate base salary from his retirement date -- June 30, 2017 -- "through the end of his contract." Nothing in the contract amendment "prevents UT from hiring a new" AD before Hart’s retirement date. The school is only "required to give 15 days notice to accelerate Hart's retirement and place him on paid administrative leave." Hart also will "forfeit any further compensation if he voluntarily ceases his duties" as AD before June 30. If Hart "terminates the agreement prematurely, he is open to pursue employment," including as AD at another institution, without "owing UT a separation payment." At Hart's request, UT "agreed that senior administrators and all media relation employees would not publicly comment or engage in negative discussion or comment relating to Hart or his employment." Hart "agreed to continue to refrain from 'making any publication concerning a matter of controversy that occurred' under his watch." Hart has made "no indications" that he "plans to step down before the announced retirement date" (Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL, 8/21).
