Sportradar, Analytics Firm Second Spectrum Reportedly Close To Deal With NBA

Sportradar and data analytics firm Second Spectrum are said to be "close to a six-year," $250M contract with the NBA, according to sources cited by Scott Soshnick of BLOOMBERG NEWS. Sources added that the contract "covers an array of rights that includes selling official league data to betting houses, data analytics to teams and the development of a streaming product." The agreement "hasn’t been signed." Wizards Owner Ted Leonsis, who led the owners’ $44M investment in Sportradar, "declined to comment." This will make Sportradar the "official data partner for three of the four major U.S. sports leagues," including the NHL and NFL, which is also an investor. Stats Inc. has MLB’s data contract. Domestically, Sportradar "has focused on building its business with media and technology companies," including Facebook, Google and Twitter. The company "also supplies data" to DFS companies such as FanDuel. Sportradar’s "partner in the contract is Second Spectrum," whose board includes former NFL Network CEO Steve Bornstein and Warriors Minority Owner Mark Stevens. The NBA data contract "had been held by Perform Group" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 8/12).
