Ticket Holders File $5M Suit Against NFL Over Cancellation Of HOF Game

Four plaintiffs "filed a class-action lawsuit" Thursday against the NFL and the Pro Football HOF following the cancellation of last weekend's Colts-Packers game, according to Jake Becker of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The fans are seeking more than $5M in order to "recover 'damages owed to themselves and others similarly situated.'" They are "represented by attorney Michael Avenatti and are requesting a jury trial." Avenatti "has been a legal thorn in the league’s side since he filed a lawsuit over a ticketing blunder" during Super Bowl XLV at AT&T Stadium (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/12). In Cleveland, John Harper notes the suit, filed in the U.S. Northern District of Ohio, claims that the NFL and the HOF "knew about the poor field conditions at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton hours before the game was scheduled to start, but continued to mislead ticket holders that the game would begin on time while selling food and merchandise" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/12).
