NBC, Yahoo Extend Partnership For Rio Games

NBC Sports and Yahoo late yesterday announced a digital content and promotional collaboration for the Rio Olympics, extending their existing partnership now in its fourth year.

The two parties also worked together for the 2014 Sochi Games. But unlike that Olympics deal that was fully in place months before the start of that event, this one arrived just one day before today’s opening ceremony in Rio. The new deal primarily calls for Yahoo providing links within its various domestic properties to NBCOIympics.com’s live streaming and on-demand programming from Rio, similar to what happened in 2014 for Sochi. But yesterday’s announcement did not include several additional components present in the Sochi digital collaboration, such as joint content development and the embedding of Yahoo personnel with NBC Sports’ digital facilities in Stamford, Conn.

“Yahoo will once again push its massive U.S. audience to links that quickly connect them with NBCOlympics.com’s unprecedented live stream coverage and vast collection of video highlights,” said Rick Cordella, NBC Sports Digital senior vice president and general manager.
