EA Will Look To Build On Appeal Of "Madden," "FIFA" In Luring Fans To E-Sports Venture

Electronic Arts Chief Competition Officer Peter Moore, whose video game company is getting into the e-sports space, believes EA "needs to find a way to complement FIFA's and Madden's strengths to the things that appeal to esports fans," according to Mike Minotti of VENTURE BEAT. Moore, speaking at the GamesBeat 2016 conference on Monday, acknowledged that EA has "some work to do in the market." Moore: "We're no longer in denial." Moore believes the strategy is to "build a community, so it wants to work with everyone." Moore added that its partners at the NFL and FIFA are "concerned that they aren’t attracting new consumers from young demographics." Moore encouraged the leagues to "not push away fans of competitive gaming by trying to marginalize it." He said that EA is "battling the mass-market perception of gamers as Doritos-eating, Mountain Dew-drinking basement dwellers." Moore believes that "acceptance from groups like the NFL can help fight against that stereotype." He said that he thinks of e-sports as the "top tier of a pyramid" in the competitive gaming space, where the "elite players of any game" compete (VENTUREBEAT.com, 8/2).
