League Notes

THE MMQB's Peter King writes by the time the Raiders-to-Las Vegas "comes to a vote eight or 10 months from now, the 31 NFL owners not named Mark Davis will vote about 28-3 in favor of Davis moving the team to Vegas." King: "Times change. Attitudes about sports gambling change. Just not that big a deal to owners in the NFL right now" (MMQB.SI.com, 7/25).

BAD DECISIONS? In S.F., Bruce Jenkins wrote MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is "speaking without filter," and it is "starting to get a bit strange." Manfred last week appeared on ESPN's "Mike & Mike" and discussed changes MLB could make to improve the game by limiting the number of relievers a team can use. It is "not such a bad thought in spirit." Jenkins wrote using a plethora of relievers is the "new blueprint for winning." Jenkins wrote of whether or not MLB should implement the rule, "In short, Mr. Commissioner, no" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/23).

THE SHORT GAME: PA SPORT noted European Tour CEO Keith Pelley "plans to have six-hole events on the professional circuit as early as next year." Pelley "has been keen to modernise the game and has already permitted players to wear shorts in pro-ams and introduced measures aimed at tackling slow play" (PA SPORT, 7/24).
