Redskins, Health Care System Inova Sign 10-Year Naming-Rights Deal For Team's HQ

The Redskins "have sold the naming rights to their training facility and headquarters in Ashburn, Va., in a 10-year deal to northern Virginia health care system Inova," according to Daniel Kaplan of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The venue "now will be called the Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park." The deal "does not extend to the team’s preseason training venue in Richmond, Va., which is titled by another health care company, Bon Secours." The Inova deal "deepens the Redskins’ affiliation with the company." Inova Chair of Sports Medicine Dr. Robin West "recently became a team doctor." Redskins Exec VP & CMO Terry Bateman "described West’s appointment and the new sponsorship as 'related but separate.'" Bateman "declined to disclose how much Inova is paying." A team spokesperson said that neither Inova nor the Redskins "used an agency to negotiate the deal" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/25 issue). In DC, Dan Steinberg noted the deal is "part of a strategic partnership with Inova that will include web content, radio and TV shows and community and wellness programs." Discussions revolving around a partnership "ultimately led to a comprehensive deal that will include a 30-minute weekly sports medicine talk show" on ESPN Radio 980 DC, Inova’s involvement with the team’s annual Redskins Health & Wellness TV special on WRC-TV and an Inova-sponsored “Find the Doctor” program aimed at Redskins fans (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/24).
