Facility Notes

In Annapolis, Bill Wagner reported the Naval Academy this month is "installing a state-of-the-art scoreboard in the south end zone" of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, one which will have the "same dimensions and quality as the scoreboard on the opposite end of the field" that was installed in '06. Both Daktronics scoreboards "will measure 25 feet high and 87 feet wide." Tulsa-based Manhattan Construction is "doing the installation" on the $2.5M scoreboard, which is "scheduled to be completed in time for the Navy football home opener Sept. 3" (CAPITALGAZETTE.com, 7/23).

LET THERE BE LIGHT: In Sacramento, Tony Bizjak in a front-page piece reports the city has "launched an eleventh-hour effort to brighten up the sidewalks and street corners of downtown to make thousands of pedestrians who will hit the streets around Golden 1 Center feel safer." The city at a cost of $1.7M will "install 104 pedestrian-level streetlamps on dimly lit blocks leading to the arena as well as several parts of midtown." The hope is to "make newcomers to downtown feel safer, and to encourage more people to stick around at bars and restaurants" before and after NBA Kings games "when the arena opens this fall" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 7/25).

YOU BELONG TO THE CITY: In Orlando, Richard Bilbao reported Orlando City SC this fall will debut its "planned Lion's Pride pub and grill in downtown." The restaurant will feature OCSC "art and graffiti walls from local artists, club branding and a luxury, members-only VIP area." The north side of the building will "feature a replica of the team's new stadium scoreboard" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 7/22).
