Minneapolis Police Back On Job At Lynx Games Following Protests From Players

Minneapolis Police Federation President Bob Kroll said that officers who provide private security at WNBA Lynx games and walked out of a recent game over the team's warm-up T-shirts "were back on the job Friday night after settling their differences" with the team, according to Tim Harlow of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Kroll: "It’s all been resolved for the better for both sides. I can confirm they have worked it out." Kroll did not "elaborate on how the two sides found common ground and said he’d leave that to the officers and the team to discuss." Harlow noted the Lynx game Friday "was staffed like any other" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/16). In Minneapolis, Jim Paulsen noted the Lynx game against the Liberty on Friday had "an announced crowd of 8,123" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/16). Also in Minneapolis, Patrick Reusse wrote the Lynx did not receive an "unprecedented outpouring from fans new and old." The size of the crowd "was pretty much what it has been for weekend home games this season." There were "probably a few more new attendees for such reasons -- with 'few' being the key word." Lynx President Chris Wright said, "We have drawn tremendously well this year, and for the past several years. ... Almost all the people are here for the same reason tonight as they have been all season: Because they love this team" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/17).

GOING VIRTUAL: In St. Paul, Julio Ojeda-Zapata noted the Lynx have "teamed up with the state's Explore Minnesota tourism board to let fans explore local landmarks and see behind-the-scenes Lynx video in 360 degrees while wearing VR goggles." The team "will next offer the VR experience on July 22, Aug. 28 and Sept. 17" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 7/16).
