Manfred Insists MASN Dispute Will Return To MLB's Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred yesterday responded to Monday’s ruling in N.Y. Supreme Court preventing the ongoing MASN media rights dispute from returning to MLB’s Revenue Sharing Definitions Committee, insisting the case will ultimately return there. “The Baltimore club agreed that if they couldn’t negotiate a rights fee agreement with the Washington club, it was going to be decided by the RSDC,” he said. “That’s what the contract says and I’m a big believer in contracts. And I’m a big believer that whatever flotsam and jetsam goes on in the meantime, that contract is ultimately going to be enforced.” The issue Manfred highlights is precisely what is now before the appellate courts. While MLB and the Nationals want the case back before the RSDC, the Orioles-controlled MASN argues the prior court ruling of improper conduct by that internal body relieves its obligation to go before it again.
