Facility Notes

In Boston, Shirley Leung notes both Revolution Owner Robert Kraft and UMass "seem into the idea" of building an MLS-specific venue on land owned by the school, but "where talks could break down is over who will pick up the tab to fix adjacent Kosciuszko Circle, the notoriously treacherous rotary," which has a bill of $120M. That was the analysis from the Boston 2024 bid committee, which "studied the area last year as part of its failed pursuit." Under the Boston 2024 plan, the state "would have picked up the cost" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/29).

STAR GAZING: In Dallas, Karen Robinson-Jacobs notes Omni Hotels & Resorts yesterday "unveiled guest room models for the future Omni Frisco Hotel" at The Star in Frisco. The hotel is set to open on the grounds of the Cowboys new practice facility and HQ in July '17. The rooms were "crafted in subterranean space one floor above the field at AT&T Stadium." The models, designed to "show off the rooms to potential guests, include bathrooms, artwork and a few touches to hint at the hotel company's football partner in the venture" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/29).

LION'S SHARE: In Orlando, Richard Bilbao reported Orlando City SC has "officially closed on more than 12 acres of city-owned land where" its future $155M stadium is being built. The club paid the city of Orlando more than $22M "for 20 pieces of land that together formed the full 12-acres-plus sale." That sale "was finalized" last Friday. The 25,500-seat stadium is "expected to be ready next year in time to host games" for the MLS club and NWSL Pride (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/28).
