Padres Co-Owner Seidler Part Of Investment Group Looking To Bring MLS To San Diego

Padres co-Owner Peter Seidler on Friday said that he is part of a group "hoping to bring" an MLS franchise to San Diego, according to Sanders & Posner of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Sources said that Mike Stone, a private equity investor and philanthropist in San Diego, "would be the lead investor." A source said that the other investor would be former Qualcomm Vice Chair Steve Altman. Seidler said, "There's a civic component that I believe in and Mike shares and an effort to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to San Diego I think if done right could be great for the city." Sources said that the investment group "is interested in sharing a stadium in Mission Valley with San Diego State’s football team" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 6/25).
