NBA Kings Unveil Four New Uniforms As Team Prepares To Move Into Golden 1 Center

The NBA Kings yesterday unveiled new uniforms "featuring the team’s redesigned logos," according to Thomas Oide of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The road jerseys "are purple with white lettering and a gray accent bar." The home uniforms "are white with purple letters." The Kings are also "selling fan versions of their purple 'city' uniforms with 'SAC' across the chest, black uniforms and the throwback baby-blue jersey worn from" '85-90 (SACRAMENTO BEE, 6/16). USA TODAY's AJ Neuharth-Keusch notes the four new jerseys -- home, away, global and city -- "are slightly updated from those of year's past, showcasing the new logos and a refreshed color palate" (USA TODAY, 6/16). SI.com's Tim Newcomb noted purple and granite "dominate Sacramento’s new looks." The away uniform "has 'Kings' across the chest." The home look "features purple lettering and trim on a white base with granite accents." All three uniforms "have a small crown above the lettering on the jersey top and the 'SAC' crown logo on the side of the shorts." Granite "was promoted heavily as a color in the refreshed brand identity, a tie to the rock from the local Sierras used in the foundation of Sacramento’s new arena" (SI.com, 6/15). ESPN.com's Paul Lukas wrote the new uniforms qualify as a "major upgrade." The new look "might not rank among the league's upper echelon, but it at least puts the franchise back on the road toward aesthetic respectability." While the new uniforms are "not particularly groundbreaking or innovative," they send a "clear message: 'This is no longer a novelty act. We are adults. Take us seriously'" (ESPN.com, 6/15).
