Radio Flyers: WFAN's Mike Francesa Says Chris Christie Might Be Interested In Position

In Newark, Joe Giglio notes New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie yesterday made his "second fill-in appearance within the last week as a co-host on WFAN's 'Boomer and Carton.'" Christie defended himself "against a caller that questioned taking days off to fill-in as a sports talk show host." Christie said, "I don't miss any days. Every day that I'm up and awake and alive, I'm governor. I'm making decisions and doing things no matter where I am." Later in the afternoon, WFAN-AM's Mike Francesa "was asked about Christie potentially auditioning for his job." Francesa: "He'd be interested" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 6/15).

LISTEN UP: ESPN Audio in May set a record for podcast impressions, marking the third straight month that the division has seen a new record. The 41.2 million impressions last month were up 35% from last May (30.7 million). The previous record set in April was 39.0 million, while March drew 38.9 million. ESPN Radio's "Dan Le Batard Show" led the nearly 100 shows with 5.3 million impressions in May. Rounding out the top five were "Mike & Mike" (3.8 million), "First Take" (3.2 million), "PTI" (3.2 million) and "Jalen & Jacoby" (2.7 million) (ESPN).

TIME BANDITS: In Buffalo, Alan Pergament cites a source as saying that, barring a last-minute complication, Entercom "has received permission to move" Jim Rome’s eponymous radio show from WGR-AM to ESPN Radio 1520 in the 7:00pm ET time slot. John Murphy’s show on the Bills will move from 7:00pm ET into Rome’s noon time slot on WGR (BUFFALO NEWS, 6/15). 

SOCCER CITY? In Louisville, Carolyn Tribble Greer noted USL club Louisville City FC and iHeartMedia "are teaming up to launch the area's first soccer-specific radio program." The one-hour program "will debut Saturday on WKRD-AM." "Soccer City" will be "hosted by Steve Peake, a former member of Louisville City FC's front office" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/14).
