Stadium District Wants Veto Power If Sports Authority Sells Mile High Naming Rights

The Denver Metropolitan Football Stadium District wants "first right of refusal if Sports Authority sells its Mile High Stadium naming rights in the coming bankruptcy auction," according to Alicia Wallace of the DENVER POST. The district yesterday made its "first appearance in Sports Authority's Chapter 11 bankruptcy case with a limited objection to the retailer's plan to assign certain contracts, which could include the stadium naming rights." The district "owns Mile High," where the Broncos play. The district has been "reluctant to discuss what might happen to the naming rights since Englewood-based Sports Authority filed for bankruptcy in March." Attorneys wrote in the filing that the contract, which was assigned to Sports Authority in '11, "outlines several factors that could be considered by the district in its approval process." Sports Authority's "contract with the district" goes through '21. The retailer "has a separate contract" with the Broncos (DENVER POST, 5/12).
