MLB Giants Team Up With VR Company Jaunt To Bring Fans Closer To The Game

Virtual Reality company Jaunt has produced a "series of VR videos" for the MLB Giants that will give fans "up-close virtual access to their favorite players," according to Daniel Terdiman of FAST COMPANY. Some of the VR videos could include "lying on the ground in between" '14 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner and a catcher as he threw a pitch or "standing directly behind a Giants hitter in a batting cage, your view so close that his bat seems to almost graze your nose on the back-swing." On Opening Day, fans got their "first look at the product at a cafe behind the left field bleachers." Giants VP/Brand Development & Digital Media Bryan Srabian said, "We thought it would be cool to bring our fans into somewhere they’ve never been before, into the batting cages, onto the field, and to bring that as part of the ballpark experience. We worked closely with our players and coaches down in spring training, kind of explaining what we were doing ... trying to think what would fans want, and where would they want to be." Terdiman noted the Giants plan to "partner with Jaunt on the production of additional VR content all season long" (FASTCOMPANY.com, 5/8).
