Overnight Ratings: NBA Lower For First Round Game 7s; NBCSN Sets New EPL Record

ABC and TNT each aired an NBA First Round Game 7 yesterday, and overnight ratings for both games were below what TNT drew last year on a Saturday night for the lone first-round Game 7. ABC yesterday in the early afternoon window aired the Heat’s 106-73 blowout of the Hornets, drawing a 3.1 overnight, while TNT last night in primetime drew a 2.8 overnight for the Raptors’ clinching win over the Pacers. Last season, TNT drew a 3.4 overnight for Spurs-Clippers Game 7, which was the lone series to go to seven games in the first round. Meanwhile, ABC yesterday in the late afternoon window drew a 5.0 overnight for Game 1 of the Trail Blazers-Warriors Conference Semifinal series, up from a 3.8 for the opener of Warriors-Grizzlies last year.

NOTES: Fox drew a 3.8 overnight for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Talladega, flat compared to track’s spring race last year....The first Yankees-Red Sox “Sunday Night Baseball” telecast of the season drew a 1.8 overnight last night, flat compared to the same matchup on the same weekend last season. ESPN will have the same matchup for “SNB” this coming Sunday....NBCSN yesterday posted a 0.8 overnight for Leicester City-Manchester United, marking the cable net’s best figure yet for an EPL match....NBC on Saturday night drew a 1.7 overnight for Penguins-Capitals Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 2. There was no comparable NHL game on NBC in primetime last year. For comparison, Fox on Saturday night drew a 1.2 for Premier Boxing Champions.

The chart below lists overnight ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
