Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hints At Possible Return To Ring With New Trademark Filings

Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s promotional company has "filed for trademarks to 'TMT 50' and 'TBE 50,'" according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. "TMT" stands for "The Money Team" and "TBE" stands for "The Best Ever." Mayweather retired following his fight last September against Andre Berto, but should he return to the ring, "it would be fight No. 50 of his career." Mayweather Promotions is "among the most aggressive athlete businesses, when it comes to dreaming up and seeking to protect trademarks." The company "has more than 35 trademarks and has filed for more than 140 others" (ESPN.com, 5/1). In Las Vegas, Gilbert Manzano noted Mayweather on Saturday night "hinted at a possible return to the ring during the Showtime telecast of the Badou Jack-Lucian Bute super middleweight title fight." He said, “Everyone is asking me, ‘Is Floyd Mayweather coming back? Right now I’m happy being on this side, but I’ve been talking to CBS and Showtime. You just never know, but right now I’m happy on this side." He added that it "would take a nine-figure payday and a championship match to lure him back to the ring" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 5/1).
