Wheels & Deals: Firestone Tires Offering Fans A Chance To Race Mario Andretti At Indy

ADWEEK's Katie Richards reported Firestone Tires is celebrating the 100th Indianapolis 500 by "giving one lucky person a chance to race against" Mario Andretti at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Firestone worked with Leo Burnett to "create a spot introducing the social-driven campaign" in which Andretti "challenges fans to race him if they think they have what it takes." Fans can upload a video online showing them completing a "challenge of the week," which will consist of "everyday, mundane tasks." Challenges from previous weeks include "peeling an orange and wrapping up a vacuum cord," while future weeks will see contestants "screw in a light bulb and fold a fitted sheet" (ADWEEK.com, 4/28).

MY BROTHER'S KEEPER: In Indianapolis, Curt Cavin reported Stefan Wilson will drive the No. 25 KV Racing Technology car in the Indy 500 "in partnership with the Indiana Donor Network in its Driven2SaveLives campaign, which promotes organ, tissue and eye donation and transplantation." The organization "hopes to get 2,500 people across the country to register to donate" through the campaign. Wilson's brother, Justin, died last year during the IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway after being struck in the head by debris. Justin Wilson "was a donor, and his organs helped five people" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 4/27).

TECH INSIDER: In Daytona Beach, Clayton Park noted Ottawa-based technology company Lixar has signed a "multi-year deal designating it as a preferred technology partner of NASCAR." Lixar is focused on "mobile solutions for enterprise airline, automotive and travel clients and will work with ... NASCAR to enhance the guest experience at national series events, specifically related to garage access" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 4/28).
