Media Notes

In L.A., Meg James notes key regulators have "signaled support" for Charter Communications' $71B-plus "acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks." Justice Department officials "proposed a settlement with Charter that would restrict the Stamford, Conn., cable company from trying to thwart the ability of online video distributors, such as Hulu or Netflix, to obtain video content from TV programmers." The Justice Department's proposed settlement "did not address the lack of distribution" for the Dodgers' channel, SportsNet LA, or whether the government would "require Charter to increase the availability of the channel in Southern California" (L.A. TIMES, 4/26).

SIGNING OFF: On Long Island, Neil Best notes Russ Salzberg "will leave" WNYW-Fox' nightly newscasts "at the end of the week, ending 27 1/2 years as a local sports anchor." Salzberg said that he "will continue to work on" the NFL Giants' postgame show and the Sunday morning Giants' kickoff show, "as well as other projects" (NEWSDAY, 4/26).
