Facility Notes

In Calgary, Shawn Logan notes city officials and members of Calgary Sports & Entertainment yesterday "opened the door" to further discussions on the CalgaryNEXT arena-stadium proposal. The sides agreed to meet "behind closed doors in the coming weeks to get a better understanding of the plans and see if they can find a fit that works for both sides." Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said that the proposed site "faces several challenges, but there’s still desire among councillors to find a solution, replacing aging facilities" for both the Flames and CFL Stampeders, as well as "create badly needed space for amateur sports" (CALGARY HERALD, 4/26).

ICE WITH THAT: In Milwaukee, Rich Kirchen noted the new Bucks arena "will include a hockey ice rink that meets NHL and NCAA specifications." But despite those plans, Bucks Senior VP/Communications & Broadcast Jake Suski said that the team's owners "aren't seeking an NHL team." Suski said that the Bucks are "looking to host events such as the NCAA hockey tournament and its Frozen Four" or an NHL exhibition. Kirchen noted the Bucks "never invited" the AHL Admirals to play at the new arena. Admirals Owner Harris Turer said that he is "'fine' with his team's new situation" starting in '16-17 at UW-Milwaukee's Panther Arena (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/25).

DINING IN: In Sacramento, Allen Pierleoni reports joining the culinary roster at the NBA Kings' new Golden 1 Center "will be three more top-tier teammates -- Mulvaney's Building & Loan, Petra Greek and the Mikuni restaurant group." They will "join four groups that also have committed" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/26).
