NBA Kings' Reported Logo Refresh Leaked, With New Look Going For "Clean And Simple"

The "revelation of an unofficial logo" for the NBA Kings -- unearthed in documents filed by the NBA with the European Union IP Office -- shows the team's design "might soon be in the running for most improved, with a dramatic jump from oddly cluttered to clean and simple," according to Blair Anthony Robertson of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The redesign, first reported by Sportslogos.net, can be seen as "either a tad boring or refreshingly cutting edge." Robertson: "It's crisp, it's clean, it's a mix of retro and modern." The Kings' existing logo is "one of the busiest." But the logo redesign is "all very hush-hush." The report has "created plenty of buzz and speculation in social media circles." However, team officials on Saturday "were neither confirming nor denying the story, the leaks or the logos" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/23). CBSSPORTS.com's Ananth Pandian noted the logos are "similar to past Kings logos but are a bit more refined and modern looking." A lion, a "nod to the Kings' majestic name and their mascot, is also added in one logo." The logos "likely won't be black and white as that is just the color scheme for trademark filings" (CBSSPORTS.com, 4/23).
