In St. Louis, Lisa Brown notes helmet makers Riddell and Schutt are "once again facing off in a courtroom over allegations of patent infringement." Chicago-based Riddell, a division of BRG Sports, on Thursday "filed a lawsuit" in the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois. Schutt "fired back ... alleging that Riddell violated patents." Riddell also "filed a lawsuit Thursday alleging patent infringement," and in its suit against Schutt, Riddell "alleges Schutt's Vengeance, ION4D, AiR XP and DNA adult and youth helmets infringe on its patents." In December '08, Riddell sued Schutt "for infringing on patents" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 4/22).

OH, THE HUMANITY: Nissan for the fourth consecutive year is partnering with the Heisman Trophy Trust to begin construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in a community where the automaker has a business presence. This year the home is located north of Nashville. Former Heisman Trophy winners participating in the project include Tim Brown, Mark Ingram, George Rogers, Billy Sims and Marcus Mariota (Nissan).

DUCK IN THE DRAFT: Nike has "signed Oregon defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to an endorsement deal," the latest potential first-round pick with whom the shoe and apparel company has reached an agreement (247SPORTS.com, 4/21). Nike earlier this week announced deals with QB prospects Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch (THE DAILY).
