Media Notes

In Denver, Joanne Ostrow reported the Rockies and iHeartMedia Denver "have agreed to a five-year contract extension" that will keep Rockies baseball on KOA-AM and FM through the '21 season. Jack Corrigan and Jerry Schemmel "will continue as voices of the team." The KOA-Rockies partnership "has been in place since the ball club’s inaugural season" in '93 (DENVERPOST.com, 4/18).

THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN: In Oklahoma City, Mel Bracht writes the Thunder's 85-84 loss to the Mavericks last night "had its share of ugly announcing." Both TNT and FS Oklahoma play-by-play announcers "blew the final play" of the game, in which it appeared the Thunder made a game-winning layup at the buzzer. TNT announcer Brian Anderson "clearly thought Steven Adams' layup was good, giving the Thunder the victory," but officials "nullified the basket after viewing the replay." FSOK announcer Brian Davis "also thought the shot was good, but he committed the cardinal sin of not knowing the score at that crucial time" (OKLAHOMAN, 4/19).

CAPTAIN'S CHOICE: GOLFWEEK's Martin Kaufmann wrote CBS' coverage of the PGA Tour RBC Heritage over the weekend "was a more interesting television production" than the net's Masters broadcast the week before. The Heritage telecasts "moved faster than they did at Augusta," and the telecasts also were "far more conversational and informative" than those at The Masters. CBS also utilized its Protracer technology this weekend, and viewers "really saw its value at Harbour Town," as it tracked winner Branden Grace's "low bullets that stayed below the tree line and out of the wind" (GOLFWEEK.com, 4/18).

HITTING THE K ZONE: In K.C., Pete Grathoff reviewed "Coached -- Big League Baseball Training and Major Drills," writing the premise for the iOS app "is simple." The app's developers said that the user "can choose to send videos to Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland, hitting coach Dale Sveum, Braves hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and others." Developers said that the one-on-one video analysis price "is per evaluation costs between $10-$60 ... depending on the coach’s credentials" (KANSASCITY.com, 4/15).
