Dallas Buyers Club: Cuban Says Mavericks To Open New Practice Facility In Downtown

Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban yesterday said that he is "in the process of closing on a building in downtown Dallas that will be renovated into his team’s practice facility," according to Dwain Price of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Cuban said that the Mavericks "will be in that facility for two years while a new permanent multipurpose practice facility is built next door." Price notes the Mavs "have been practicing in an underground facility inside American Airlines Center since the arena opened" in '01. But it "only has one court and is outdated when compared to what most other NBA teams have." Cuban said that he "didn’t consider moving the facility to Frisco," where the Cowboys are moving their HQ and practice facilities this summer. The Stars also "practice in Frisco," and the D-League Texas Legends also play there. Cuban: “We can’t have a practice facility that far away" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/19). Cuban said that the property is "large enough to hold both the temporary practice facility and the new permanent one as it is being built next to it." He added that when the new facility is finished, the old one "probably will be razed to make way for parking." Cuban said that he "anticipates the interim facility being ready for move-in by this summer" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/19).
