Ravens Announce Shift To Variable Pricing, Will Increase Cost Of Regular-Season Tickets

The Ravens have "joined a growing trend in professional sports by announcing a shift to variable pricing for game tickets" for the '16 season, according to Childs Walker of the Baltimore SUN. Though the cost of a 10-game season-ticket plan "will remain the same for the fourth consecutive year, the face price of preseason tickets will go down" by 50% and the face price of regular-season tickets "will increase" by 12%. Ravens Senior VP/Ticket Sales & Operations Baker Koppelman said, "It's just kind of the way of the world at this point. We changed based on a combination of fan feedback and seeing what other teams are doing." Koppelman "doesn't expect the change to have much impact on most ticket holders or on the Ravens' bottom line" because more than 90% of the 71,008 seats at M&T Bank Stadium "are filled by season-ticket holders, and the renewal rate for season plans" is 99%. Some fans on Reddit's Ravens page were "complaining about the increased prices for regular season tickets after a 5-11 year," while others were "saying the new system benefits season-ticket holders." The change will mean "increased prices for fans looking to buy individual regular season tickets when they go on sale in late July." However, the Ravens are "not adopting 'dynamic' pricing, an increasingly popular approach." Koppelman: "I'm hoping we never have to do it. I prefer to keep the process as clean as we can and as not confusing as we can" (Baltimore SUN, 4/16).
