The NBA Kings on Thursday said that they have "cut off season ticket sales for the inaugural year at Golden 1 Center in order to hold seats back for individual games and partial season packages," according to Dale Kasler of the SACRAMENTO BEE. Details were not immediately available, but Kings President & COO Chris Granger last month said that season-ticket sales "were approaching 11,000 and the team was close to cutting off sales." He added that the team has "sold out nearly its entire inventory of 2,500 premium seats." Even if a team "could sell out the entire arena to season-ticket holders, sports-business experts say it’s smarter to make tickets available for individual games or smaller, multi-game packages." That approach "helps build a pipeline of newer and younger fans who might become season ticket purchasers some day." Golden 1 Center, set to open in the fall, "will seat approximately 17,500 for basketball" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/8). In Sacramento, Ben van der Meer noted Granger "also reiterated on Thursday that a select number of tickets will be available for each game." Single-game tickets "can be purchased as part of group packages and other options." New season-ticket sales "began in early January, a few months after renewal sales for existing ticketholders" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/7).
