The Armory In N.Y. Set To Host Indoor Marathon Festival In Effort To Help Raise Funds

The New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in N.Y. will try a new event this weekend to raise money and facilitate a world record -- an indoor marathon festival. Over three days, the venue will host 14 different marathons -- 12 involving corporate, club or school relay teams, and one individual race for each gender on Saturday. A $5,000 prize is going to anyone who breaks the world record of 2:27 for men and 2:53 for women, and organizers expect to pay out, said Armory Exec VP Jonathan Schindel. The records for the esoteric indoor marathon are “soft,” he said. Citi, law firm Skadden Arps, Scopia Capital, Acadia Realty Trust, KGS Alpha Capital Markets and Maxim Group have signed on as sponsors.
