Topps To Create Baseball Cards On A Daily Basis To Capture Memorable Moments

The Topps Co. has partnered with MLB to create an instant trading card initiative called Topps Now in which daily happenings from the ’16 season will be turned into both physical and digital cards. Topps each day will create 200 limited-edition cards based on the previous day’s events from MLB games. The cards will be available to order at Topps.com, but only for 24 hours, after which the Topps Now series will move to the next day’s events and the previous cards will no longer be available. While Topps for years has worked in various custom and special-issue card series, this is the first time the company has developed a coordinated, near real-time effort to create new cards over the course of an entire season. Topps intends to eventually expand the Topps Now MLB concept to its other sports licensees. “Magical moments will be captured on baseball cards the very next day, giving fans everywhere a chance to own a piece of history almost immediately,” said Topps VP/Product Development Clay Luraschi.
