Yankees Complain About Level Of MLB Revenue Sharing Compared To Mets

The Yankees are "upset about the money they are paying in revenue sharing compared to their cross-town rival Mets," according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSPORTS.com. Yankees President Randy Levine said, "What is very burdensome to us -- and is unfair -- is the amount of money we have to pay in revenue sharing compared, for example, to teams in our market that pay 10 times less than us. Hopefully that is something that will get looked at in the next labor agreement." MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said that he already has "spoken to teams at length about the next revenue-sharing plan, and anticipates no issues from the Mets and Yankees." Levine said that the Yankees will "continue to support baseball’s plan to redistribute income and is working with Manfred, 'in what thus far has been a very transparent process.'" Levine said that the Yankees paid approximately $90M in revenue sharing for '15. The club also paid a reported $26M luxury tax, which "applies to teams that exceed a certain payroll threshold." The Mets' average home attendance rose 18% in '15, and the amount they pay in revenue sharing this season "will reflect the increase in income." Data from Forbes shows that the Yankees reportedly "generated the most revenue in the majors" in '15 -- $516M after revenue sharing. The Mets’ revenue was $313M (FOXSPORTS.com, 3/25).
