Top Female High Jumper Vashti Cunningham, Randall's Daughter, Signs With Nike

U.S. high jumper Vashti Cunningham has "signed an endorsement deal with Nike and is turning professional" ahead of the Rio Games, according to David Schoen of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Cunningham, the daughter of former NFLer Randall Cunningham, currently is a high school senior, but she is a "leading contender to qualify for the U.S. team." Randall Cunningham "did not disclose any terms of his daughter's contract with Nike but called it 'very lucrative.'" Schoen notes the announcement came one day after Vashti Cunningham "won the gold medal in the women's high jump" at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 3/22). Cunningham, who earlier this month "posted the best high jump by a woman this year," still plans to "attend college and pursue a degree, but signing with Nike ends her high school and collegiate career" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 3/22).
