Fox Sports And NextVR To Create Virtual Reality Broadcasts For March Madness

NextVR Cameras courstide

NCAA’s March Madness has just become more intense as Fox Sports and NextVR have partnered to provide tournament action in virtual reality. Essentially, the custom lens-to-lens structure for capturing live and on-demand experiences is what NextVR brings to the table. To start, the entirety of the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden will be live streamed in VR.

Next, On March 10th, NextVR will start its streaming of the NCAA tournament including the championship game on March 12th. NextVR will stream a total of seven games, which will be the first time an entire tournament will be captured for the emergent virtual reality audience.

“NextVR has years of experience capturing NBA basketball in VR we are bringing to bear here,” David Cole says, co-founder of NextVR. “That includes best camera positions, inclusion of broadcast elements in the VR delivery, sound design, graphics, etc.”

This isn’t the first time Fox Sports and NextVR have teamed up, as they previously collaborated to bring the Daytona 500 NASCAR Race and Premier Boxing Champions to virtual reality spectators.

To access this footage, the user must download the NextVR app for the Samsung Gear VR headset that will provide various angles on the court. Angles include, low and mid court viewpoints, as well as a camera for dunks and at the-rim action. This exclusive experience will create a perspective that only people with the most expensive ticket in the building would understand.
