Pac-12 Nets To Divide Basketball Tournament Telecasts Regionally, Frustrating Some Viewers

Pac-12 Networks will "no longer" broadcast the conference’s basketball tournaments across all of the networks’ regional channels, a "change from the past three years, when all men’s and women’s games shown on the Pac-12 Networks were broadcast to everyone with a subscription," according to Adam Jude of the SEATTLE TIMES. The first two games of the Pac-12 women’s tournament today at KeyArena "won’t be available to viewers in the Seattle area who have the Pac-12 Washington regional feed." Seattle-area viewers "will be able to watch the two night games Thursday featuring the two local teams," but those games "won’t be available to most Pac-12 fans in the Bay Area or Arizona." All of the women’s and men’s tournament games "will air on the Pac-12’s national feed," but that "isn't offered" to local Comcast customers with a basic cable package. The same regional plan is "in place for the broadcast of the men’s tournament next week." Pac-12 Networks President Lydia Murphy-Stephans said that this shift has "been the plan since the networks launched" in '12. She is, however, "aware of feedback from fans who are confused and frustrated by the recent change, and she’s trying to do something about it" (SEATTLE TIMES, 3/3).
