Braves Revenue Falls For Second Consecutive Year Amid Continued On-Field Struggles

Braves Owner Liberty Media reported that the team took in $243M in its '15 FY, the club's "second consecutive year of revenue declines," according to Mark Meltzer of the ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE. The Braves in '13 and '14 brought in $260M and $250M, respectively. In '15, the Braves' event revenue declined around $9M from '14, and Liberty attributed it to "lower game attendance and reduced concession sales." The team had the third-worst record in MLB last year, and attendance "fell to its lowest level in 25 years." However, revenues are "expected to rise sharply" in '17, when the club moves to SunTrust Park. Liberty is also "creating a tracking stock" for the Braves that is "expected to begin trading in April under the stock symbols BATRA, BATRB and BATRK." Owners will not "hold a direct interest in the Braves," but instead hold shares in Liberty Media (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/26).
