Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul Sues Adam Schefter, ESPN For Posting His Medical Records

NFL Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul yesterday filed a lawsuit against ESPN and reporter Adam Schefter in a Florida court "citing a violation of his privacy" after the net and Schefter posted his "private medical records online to millions of readers," according to Julia Marsh of the N.Y. POST. The suit said that Schefter "'improperly obtained' Pierre-Paul's medical chart showing he had his right index finger amputated and posting the record on Twitter to nearly 4 million followers." Schefter later admitted he "could have and should have done even more to protect (Pierre-Paul's) medical records." Schefter said that he "tweeted the image of the medical record to bolster a story about the surgery" (N.Y. POST, 2/25). In N.Y., Michael O'Keeffe notes the suit, which is "seeking more than $15,000 in damages," is "similar to litigation filed last year in Florida court" by former Univ. of Miami pitching coach Lazaro Collazo. He claimed Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez "violated his privacy and state law by publishing his Biogenesis medical records and supplying them to federal authorities" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/25).
